Abrasive Wheels Instructor Course

Our abrasive wheels instructor training course is designed to provide learners with the necessary teaching skills and subject knowledge to train others how to use abrasive wheels safely.  All participants will come away with a range of teaching methods and public speaking skills that will enhance their abilities as an instructor..

All candidates must have a good understanding of oral and written English.  Previous experience with Abrasive Wheels and Training qualification to QQI Level 6 or equivalent is highly recommended.

Course objectives

  • By the end of this course learners will:
  • Identify different types of abrasive wheel
  • Identify Hazards and Controls that can be used to prevent accidents
  • Outline the Methods of Testing and Inspection requirements
  • Instruct on the methods of selecting and mounting a variety of wheels
  • Explain Dressing / Maintenance requirements
  • Outline the requirement for appropriate PPE for various tasks
  • Identify methods of assessing competency of learners.

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (Section 2 covers competency and demands training for all such activities) and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) (Amendment) Regulations 2016 (S.I. No. 36 of 2016) places an obligation on all employers where Abrasive Wheels are in use, to ensure that only trained, competent and appointed personnel mount the appropriate wheels in the machines.
